Capstone Collection: Release!
What is dressing up but creating alter egos? The garments we wear enable us to create the person we may be or wish to be. I wanted to explore the power behind clothing in connection to magical girl anime and manga from my childhood.
A common trope in these stories was a normal girl would suddenly gain supernatural powers accompanied by an extravagant outfit and alter ego. Sometimes they would have multiple outfits which reflected different powers they might possess. I am inspired by the multitudes we possess as people. I see this most in my mother who has been my style icon for all my life.

Looking through photos from her past I can see how she herself has transformed and shown the world versions of herself. I may not know what she was actually like but by examining these photos I am able to get hints about her from a time before my existence in ways that can’t be replaced by words.
